I've been freelancing for 3+ years, and the creative work was never the hard part — invoicing clients, tracking who'd paid and keeping my accounting straight was. So I did what everyone does: I tried the “popular” tools. Almost every one of them wanted enterprise money just to let me send an invoice and see who still owed me.
My background is in software engineering, so instead of renting a solution I decided to build one. I brought in a small team of fellow engineers, and together we set out to make one tool that does the whole job, priced for a freelancer instead of a corporation. Whatever we didn't know going in, we learned along the way, and Billuxo is the result.
The expense screen came out of our own mess: months of spending that never made it into a spreadsheet. Now it's an amount and a tap, so it actually gets done.
