I've been freelancing for 3+ years, and the creative work was never the hard part — invoicing clients, tracking who'd paid and keeping my accounting straight was. So I did what everyone does: I tried the “popular” tools. Almost every one of them wanted a fat monthly subscription just to let me send an invoice and see who still owed me money.

That never sat right with me — paying a recurring fee, forever, for something this basic. My background is in software engineering, so instead of renting a solution I decided to build one. I brought in a small team of fellow engineers, and together we set out to make one tool that solves this completely — and stays free, for life.
